Netflix’s cloud plans are set to offer co-op and Netflix party games that you can play with friends and family. These games will be streamed through the cloud to your TV. Greg Peters, Netflix’s co-CEO, shared this update during the company’s Q4 2024 earnings announcement. The company has been testing cloud gaming since 2023, and this new plan shows they will keep investing in it.
Peters didn’t give a specific date for when these games on Netflix will be available, but he mentioned that Netflix sees these games as a new version of family game nights or classic TV game shows, said “we think of this as a successor to family board game night or an evolution of what the game show on TV used to be.”

Netflix will also continue to focus on story-driven games based on its own shows and movies. Peters mentioned that these types of games are very popular, and Netflix has a lot of content to create games from.
There have been some big changes in Netflix’s gaming division recently. Leanne Loombe, a former executive, left to join Annapurna Interactive. The comoany also got a new leader for its Netflix gaming division after the previous one moved to a role focused on AI in gaming. The company also announced it will remove most of its interactive games and close its AAA game studio before releasing any games.
The Netflix gaming service is still in a “limited” beta test, so only a small number of people can try it right now. At first, the only two games available to stream are Oxenfree and Molehew’s Mining Adventure. Both are available on Netflix’s platform.

To play, you’ll need to download a special Netflix games controller app for your phone (either iPhone or Android). You can use this app to control the game on your TV. The games will be available on several devices, including Amazon Fire TV, Chromecast with Google TV, and Roku devices. On the web, you can play using a mouse and keyboard.
Netflix now has 282.7 million subscribers worldwide. This is an increase of 5.07 million from the previous quarter. Last year, Netflix had 277.65 million subscribers in Q2 and 269.6 million in Q1 2024.
Netflix gained many new subscribers after it started cracking down on password sharing. After Netflix announced this crackdown in May 2023, the number of new subscribers grew. The company added 100,000 new subscribers on both May 26th and 27th, 2023. The average number of new signups per day increased by 102%, even higher than during the COVID-19 lockdown.
